CARMINE COLELLA - RACCONTI BREVI  in 140 caratteri

@ColellaCarmine

D) Siamo a quattro...
Simulazione (pubblicata nell’antologia “ La palla è rotonda” Giulio Perrone Editore.)*

D) Un titolo a caso... chi è Tommasina?

In the sixties the Grand Bahama Island's only industries were a couple of casinos on a thin strip of white sand, West of Freeport.  The money flowing through the casinos benefited few, only local officials and outside investors. Most Bahamians were poor, living in run down shacks without bonafide sewage, clean water or garbage collection. Bahamians with hearts the size of lions, knowing what it meant to be down on your luck. Knowing as well, the dark carnal sensation of having nothing to eat.

Figaro Lucowski had big plans the day he boarded a British Airways Flight in Miami to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island.  It was the sixties when travelers to the tropical isles were glamourous, fashionable, slim, exotic, adventurous and cool, like Frank Sinatra, Richard Burton, Ava Gardner or Errol Flynn. Not what you see today; unsightly, characterless, middle class buffaloes, useless in a foreign country without a guide to lead them about on a tour bus.

WHISPERING PINES - CHARLES E. WELLS

Whispering Pines is one of the most unique suspense/paranormal series ever written. In it, Wells captures the reader inside a plausible world of paranormal tinged suspense, bone jarring excitement, and nail chewing drama. With over half a million words scattered over ten novel length books, the stories conjures some of the most highly enjoyable reading and morally agreeable characters found in the literary entertainment world today.

The saga begins in Georgia, the Empire State of the South, but readers need not show up dressed in cotton shirts and tight jeans, expecting to pick peas, shuck corn, or call the hogs. Instead, one best pack their luggage with not only a tooth brush and change of underwear, but a tablet PC, 4G connection accounts and a high tech data phone. These southern flavored citizens of the south are far from stereotypical rednecks or uneducated illiterates sitting around on the porch playing banjos. Book 1 of the series is free at most sellers and only .99 cents at Amazon.

“The Beginning”

Chapter 1

The belly of the C-130 was painted black for night stealth but the configuration made it far too easy to spot against the backdrop of the early morning dawn. The four engine turboprop airplane was an old military cargo type designed for fast missions in and out of short, tight landing strips in either jungles or deep wooded areas of Georgia.

On the ground fifteen hundred feet below, half a dozen men watched the machine rumble past overhead, performing a little air ballet of sorts as it circled the makeshift landing strip, waiting for the go or no go signal from the controller on the ground. One of the six men, the boss of the crew, removed a hand held radio from his belt and pressed the send switch. “We’re here Blackbird. You are clear to land.”

On cue, the aircraft climbed another five hundred feet then banked heavily to the right in a hard sharp turn with one wing seemingly dragging through the tops of the pine trees that bordered the runway. When it straightened back with wings level again, it started a fast drop towards the grass covered runway almost touching the surface before the ship nosed up slightly, flared its wings like a landing duck and then dropped onto the earth with an explosion of grass, red dust and rocks.

"Wow" one of the six men said aloud. "How in hell does that guy do that?"

At the same time as the wheels touched down, the four huge props on the wings reversed reverse into the wind with an ear piercing whistle which helped slow the plane's speed until it rolled to a full stop in less than 2,000 feet.

Inside the plane, the pilot spun the nose gear steering control with his left hand and the plane started a slow one-eighty turn and then faced into the rising sun from which it had come. With outside vision at zero from the dust cloud, the pilot watched the ship’s console compass spin and he settled the needle on 134 degrees. Satisfied with his position, he cut power to the inboard engines and the thunder weakened to a deaf roar. He would leave the two outboards running at 20 percent because there was no fuel crisis or any other reason to risk a restart of all four engines. With finality, he locked the brakes, checked the overhead gauges, and then let his eyes scan the tree line outside looking for the signal. It was not long in coming.

From the shadows of the tree line on the right side of the runway, a small light beam flashed once, then twice and then once more. The pilot reached to an overhead panel, flipped a switch off and on, three times. The plane’s running lights flashed in accordance.

Boss watched the plane return his signal, tucked the flashlight away in a pocket and turned to the others with a tone of authority, "Okay. Let's get going and everyone keep your eyes open. I don’t want any more trouble tonight."

Eyes alert and wary, the pilot watched a pair of vehicle headlights glare on from the woods and then start toward him. A third and smaller vehicle followed the parade. He cut power back further on the left side engine, leaving the main right idling then reached for the intercom mike and said, “It’s clear. Open the rear cargo doors.”

A voice over the electronic box replied “Got it; doors open.”

When the rear door, which also served as loading ramp, was fully open and down, two heavy pickup trucks backed to the bottom of the ramp and a yellowish green warehouse forklift puffed to a stop at the base. A dark figure of a man from the left truck stepped out and then up the ramp of the C-130. “Any problems?” he asked the load handler.

“Nothing serious, we had to dive down to the water a couple of times when they hit us with radar but we lost them easy enough. What about you?”

Boss looked at the covered crates stacked and strapped in the center of the cargo bays. An idea gleamed in his mind. “We have a small problem outside. I've got a passenger for you to take part of the way back when you leave.”

The man shook his head. “No deal there. We did not bargain on taking any passengers. It’s your problem. You deal with it.”

Boss turned to the waiting trucks outside and motioned. Three men got out, walked up the ramp, and stood quietly waiting. Pointing to the wooden pallets, he barked, “Bring the fork up and let’s get started.”

As the men started working with the cargo, he turned back to the load handler and said, “Just take our passenger and drop him off someplace out of the way. He’s out cold and hog tied so there will not be any trouble. If he stays here it will endanger everything we got going.”

The load handler took a deep breath of the morning air, sighed, and then nodded agreement. Boss signaled two more men on the other truck. It wasn’t long before they appeared at the bottom of the plane's ramp dragging a body clumsily up the ramp. The loadmaster watched then shook his head in disgust and pointed. “Put him over there and strap him down good to an empty pallet. I don’t want any troubles.”

He turned back to Boss and asked, “Where do I drop him off?”

Boss smiled and said, “Drop him off over the water someplace from about 5,000 feet. Don’t bother offering him a parachute either. We don’t want this one coming back to bother us again.”

Okay, now let’s get this ship unloaded but remember, there will be an extra charge for helping you solve this problem.”

The man nodded. “Can’t expect anything less so just do it and you’ll get your fair share for the trouble. We got the rest of it covered from this end.”

***

Six hours later and 35 miles out over the Gulf of Mexico, the black-bellied C-130 was clipping waves at 50 feet, once again avoiding detection by the New Orleans Radar stations. The loadmaster, now in the co-pilot seat, nodded at the pilot "It’s as good a place as any."

The pilot turned and raised an eyebrow. “Here at this altitude? We’re too low.”

The loadmaster unlocked his seat harness and stood. “Just fly the ship and let me take care of the rest. That sucker doesn’t stand a chance. He's tied up and at this speed he’ll pop open like a watermelon when he hits the water."

The pilot nodded. “Yea, and even if he don’t, he’s fish food, any way you look at it.”

The rear cargo door opened slowly when the handler pressed a release button on the side panel then another and the heavy wooden pallet with the man strapped securely on top, rolled rearward slightly. With one foot, the handler shoved at the crate and it skittered out the rear door, disappearing over the side of the lowered ramp. The handler punched another button and the door started closing.

“Fish food,” he mumbled as the green “Door Secure” indicator light on the operation panel flashed. “He’s nothing but fish food.”

ME, MY WORLD & I  -  A.V. BARBER

http://www.avbarber.com/out-now/

You have no idea what it’s like sitting on a shelf in the poetry section of a bookshop. Have you ever noticed how literature designated as intellectual is always hidden like some top-shelf publication in a sweet shop? I get so lonely down there in all that prehistoric dust. Truth be told, I get picked up less than Betty Jones at number forty-seven – and she’s ninety-two!

As you might have gathered, I’m a little different – some might even say special! I’m not so much a poetry book, more a biography of everyday living. Within my pages, you will find the musings and poetry of an ordinary bloke from down your street. This is the life and times of Joe Average, a testament to life as you know it – and a vote for the real world.

You could say I’m a snapshot of real life written by a real person. If you buy me, I promise to sit on your coffee table and pretend to be intellectual … just think how much more sophisticated you will look!

Synopsis

This is a book about life – not through the eyes of a superstar or viewed from some mansion in Beverly Hills, but as lived by an average guy from down your street.

This is not some handpicked account of conveniently manufactured experiences, created specifically to titillate the reader. Rather, it’s an honest account of the ups and downs experienced in an average year of most people’s lives.

I invite you to follow me on a journey of discovery in which the characters are real people, and their experiences are not some subplot from a badly written script. Here you will find an inquisitive mind, genuine emotion, and an awakening to the fact that we can be something more.

As a collection of poetry, this is a work of self-expression (not an attempt to join the dusty ranks of academia). But then, this is so much more than a poetry book. Here, with soul bared, you will find a personal diary, a scrapbook of memories, and a soapbox for debate. This is a biography on life in which the featured verse is an important part of the journey, but not the complete story.

Some might say that this is a depiction of life through rose-tinted glasses, topped off with a heady dose of nostalgia. Others might say it’s an overly critical and pessimistic view of where we are heading. What do you say?

L'ho incontrato Twittando e Twittando l'ho intervistato.

D) Aldo Filippo Spataro cosa ti spinge a scrivere horror?

INSTINCT - JEREMY ROBINSON - www.jeremyrobinsononline.com

The president of the United States is dead—assassinated by a weaponized strain of the Brugada Syndrome, a genetic disease that kills without symptom. Without warning. The infected fall over dead, their healthy hearts stopped. Thankfully, the fast actions of the Secret Service revive the President. But the assassination attempt was just the beginning. The contagious new strain spreads silently across the United States. Within weeks, the human race will be on the brink of extinction.

The coming pandemic thrusts Jack Sigler, call sign King, and his “Chess Team”—Queen, Rook, Bishop and Knight—into a frantic search for the disease’s origin, and hopefully, a vaccine. Accompanying them are Sara Fogg, a CDC disease detective and Somi Syha, an undercover CIA field agent in the remote region the team must infiltrate—Vietnam’s Annamite mountain range.

With biologists routinely discovering large, new mammal species in the Annamites, the region has been called a modern day Noah’s Ark. But to those who live there, the dark jungles and harsh terrain laden with Vietnam War era landmines is regarded as a land of death—where plagues are born and killers reside.

As the Chess Team returns American boots to the Ho Chi Minh trail they find the Death Volunteers—Vietnamese Special Forces—waiting for them. Pursued through the jungle, underground tunnel systems and ancient ruins from a time before human settlement, the team receives a warning from the lone survivor of a slaughtered village. “Nquoi Rung,” the old woman whispers. “Nquoi Rung.”

An ancient evil hunts the team, and while it won’t let them leave the jungle alive, it may just hold the key to saving the human race.

Jeremy Robinson pulls no punches in his second installment of the Chess Team series, combining adrenaline-rush action with smart science, ancient legends and stunning locations.

THE AUTHOR

Jeremy Robinson was born in the sometimes mysterious seacoast town of Beverly, Massachusetts. From a young age his father fostered a love for Science Fiction. He grew up on thick doses of Superman, Batman, X-men, Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Star Trek and Godzilla—creative fuel for the future.

He began his creative career as an illustrator for comic books and comic strips and worked on several small indie projects, but it wasn’t long before an epiphany struck—his art wasn’t just about creating images—it was about telling stories. Robinson switched gears to writing, first screenplays and then novels.

Robinson is now the author of numerous novels (nearly twenty) including the highly praised SECONDWORLD, as well as PULSE, INSTINCT, and THRESHOLD the first three books in his exciting Jack Sigler series, which is also the focus of and expanding series of co-authored novellas deemed the Chesspocalypse. Robinson also known as the #1 Amazon.com horror writer, Jeremy Bishop, author of THE SENTINEL and the controversial novel, TORMENT. His novels have been translated into ten languages. He lives in New Hampshire with his wife and three children.

There are few things Luke hasn't seen. With all this experience behind him, it would be tempting to write a set of memoirs. Instead, Luke utilized it to fuel his own expansive imagination and began writing fiction. Initially starting with short stories, Luke rapidly progressed onto novels. His first book, THE DARK PATH, is now out and swiftly became a #1 best selling Horror and was also voted in the Top Ten Horror novels of 2009.
